MGO 829 - (NPA 20+) - Nature’s Gold is delighted to stock our very own 100% raw Australian active Manuka honey. Harvested from the East Coast of Australia, every batch is University tested and awarded a strength rating. Our Manuka honey is available in different MGO ratings right up to a very potent MGO 1250.

Manuka honey is fast becoming known as liquid gold. What makes it so special is its unique non-peroxide activity. This naturally occurring chemical process boosts the antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Manuka honey’s unique value is recognised internationally and a long list of health benefits are associated with its use.

Manuka honey is mono-floral, meaning it is made from one species of flower. It is produced by bees that have fed on the Leptospermum tree, which flowers fewer than six weeks a year and grows wild in Australia and New Zealand. While Manuka honey has only recently come under the spotlight, its use dates back centuries as a traditional Indigenous medicine.

Different honeys do have different potencies. Our Australian Manuka Honey is rated using the MGO system, which is an abbreviation for Methylglyoxal. Every batch of Manuka honey must be lab tested to determine its activity and how potent its active enzymes are. The higher the MGO number, the higher the antibacterial activity and the more beneficial the honey will be for your health.

If you open a jar of Nature's Gold raw Manuka Honey and there is foam on the top - this is due to air bubbles trapped in the honey during the aeration process and packaging. When the packaged honey rests, the air bubbles work their way up to the top of the container, creating the foam. There is nothing wrong with the honey or the foam.

If you would like to read more about the benefits and unique properties of Manuka Honey as well as a more in-depth discussion of the ratings systems please have a read of this blog post.

Please note: Manuka Honey should not be given to infants under 12 months old because of the MGO strength of the honey.

One of the rarest honeys in the world, and it comes from a tiny, stingless bee - the Tetragonula.

Fact:  1 hive only produces 1 kg of this wonderful honey per year - so this is a very special honey.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

• Contains Propolis - Native bees make more propolis per hive than honey.
• Scientifically proven to have a low Glycemic Index which is very good for Diabetics - read article further down.
• Potent antidiabetic and antibacterial properties - as high as Manuka Honey
• High antioxidant
• the colour is normally a lighter colour compared to Manuka Honey and viscous.

Native Bee honey has a lemony/slightly sour taste, a distinctive “bush” taste—
a mix of sweet and sour with a hint of fruit. The taste comes from plant resins—which the bees use to build their hives and honey pots—and varies at different times of year depending on the flowers and trees visited.

Australian Native Bee honey contains trehalulose - and has the ability to protect cellular membranes and labile proteins against damage and denaturation as a result of desiccation and oxidative stress. Trehalose appears to be the most effective sugar for protection against desiccation, the removal of moisture.

Native Bee Honey has a low GI so could be beneficial to diabetics - having a decreased GI means it takes longer for the sugar to be absorbed into the blood stream, so there may not be a spike in glucose that you get from different sugars.

Here we are with Steve, our Native Bee Keeper, and a standard native bee hive.

Steve absolutely loves his bees and is very conscious about protecting them and keeping them happy and contented - the bees are kept safe and well during the honey extraction process.

There are about 10,000 flying bees in this hive plus the lava, eggs and pupae.
